Abstract:

The economic theory offers divers analytical tools that can be applied in different conditions. The Paradigm Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) of the Industrial Organization offers such a tool for industry analysis. This paper follows the historical development of the paradigm and its elements to reveal further research opportunities. Structure, performance, conduct and basic conditions are revisited. This sequence follows the history of empirical research, the critics and the approaches for improvement. The focus is on the Conduct as an initially neglected element of the paradigm. The research is based on secondary sources and represents an extensive analysis of both theory and practice. Opportunities for contemmporary research are formulated as a conclusion.
